A Visit to Padaung Long Necks and a Lisu New Year
I traveled to the Northern Thailand village of Sappong. In this mountainous area live many different ethnic hill tribe peoples. Each has a separate New Years and in turn a separate New Year celebration. It is based on their beliefs and usually coincides with a moon phase.
The Lisu have a colorful celebration of dance and song and welcomed us with open arms. We joined them as they danced from house to house amid music and offers of whiskey.
Afterward we traveled to Mae Hong Son and visited a Padaung, commonly know as Long Neck, village. This is a very controversial visit and I had avoided it for some time. Please view the articles and see why. You can decide for yourself.
